Ok can anyone help me find more out about this type of guitar? Recently got a nice silvertone 31 from a good friend - As far as I know the '14560' is the serial number, that would be the month/date/year in there, and i am guessing by what i found on the internet this is a 1960 guitar, and then last 3 numbers would indicate how many they made that year, well if mine is '001' I think mine is the 1st one made that year? I found another like this somewhere else online, and the guy that had it has a serial number as '14560100' which would indicate his was the 100th one? So would mine be worth more and more rare being the 1st one made? The guitar is great and sounds great, and cosmetically in 90% mint shape for as old as it is and all original as far as my knowledge. Only problem with it is action, but I'm still working on that. Any info on it would be appreciated (pic of it below, took pic from my friends profile until i put new pic up). Also I've seen these go around the $200 to $500 range online, is this correct, or could it be lower or higher, also maybe more rare and worth more if it is indeed a '001' 1st guitar made? Ok still cool, so the '14560' the 0 would stand for 70 then, by reading what others have said about serial, still there's the '001' at the end, which still makes me believe mine was the 1st one ever made, cause like i said another guy had one and his was '14560100'. Oh I don't know. I'll probably end up selling/trading it later anyway lol. For example mine had the numbers 6640 and 6645. This means '1966' and the 40th and 45th weeks of that year the pots were made. An excellent source of information is the 'Dating Vintage Guitars and Amps by Source-Date code'. Silvertone - Japan Made Models (Written by Jimmy Noise / June 2012) Silvertone was a brand developed by Sears Roebuck Company in the early 30’s. The Silvertone brand replaced the Supertone brand on musical instruments sold by Sears. I love it, but I can't seem to get it to stay in tune, and I'm sure that's a big problem with those old guitars. Also 'The 1456 is the last electric guitar in the Sears catalog to 'hold over' from the days when Silvertones ruled.' That's pretty cool lol. Thanks sweetfinger for that link! So from my understanding and info based on that site and other sites.this is a 1970 model, and with the ending being '001' I am still pretty sure it's the 1st model they ever made, because they started this series in 1970 and it went on until 1973, but by time 1973 came, they changed the T/V knobs to something different, and didn't use sunburst on the back of the headstock. Mine has sunburst on back of headstock and i have the original T/V knobs too, which indicates this is for sure a 1st model of this guitar, but is it the 1st one they made ever in 1970 based on the '001' at the end, that still remains a mystery lol. Also just confirmed by lookin in F hole, it is indeed 1970' as mine says '70' in it, just like the site says so. Free Software Serial NumbersSo based on the info i found on that site IMPORTANT SPECS/PARTS ABOUT MY GUITAR: - Silvertone block logo on mine, site says 'block logo appears very briefly on some early 1456 models.' - T/V knobs which indicates it's the earliest model in 1970, because they changed them later to something else before discontinued in 1973. - Back of headstock is sunburst, they didn't do this on the later models before they discontinued in 1973. - My tuning keys are metal, they changed to white plastic before discontinuing in 1973. - Inside F hole, it's stamped '70' which does indicate it's 1970 based on site info.
